N.E.C NOTES
Welcome to spring! I attended the virtual zoom executive and regular midyear session of the National Executive Committee meeting. Unit charter cancellations and policy revisions were discussed. National President Lisa spoke of her great travels, and how wonderful it was to see so many unit members doing such splendid work around the country. She is looking forward to her European trip soon. The auditors of Blue and Company, gave their report on the financial structure of our organization. Their findings were that everything is well, and because of the dues increase, dividends, and investments, we are below the budget for operating costs for the National organization for the first time in five years. Madam, President asked us to promote the AEF and the Spirit of Youth Foundation scholarship fund as donations are coming in slowly.
Please continue to take precautions when in large groups of people as Covid it is still on the rise, and we don’t want anyone to get sick. As we have a new consolidated unit report, I am hoping that all units will fill it out and get it into the department as it should be a lot easier than all those pieces of paper. Remember that if you want to write a narrative for any of the programs that you have done for
a special event or project, please attach it to the report. Any unit that has not filed their 990, is not in compliance with the IRS and needs to do it as soon as possible. Remember the department will help you if you need it.
Hope you had a blessed Easter and a wonderful Spring. Stay happy and healthy.

Not much to tell you right now, as our meeting is this week. I will send an update after the meeting to let you know how it went. Meanwhile, I hope some of you are planning to attend the Washington awareness assembly to storm Capitol Hill with our legionnaires to bring awareness to our elected officials of the priorities of the Legislative objectives of the American Legion. Check out the website and you will get more information and I also believe you can watch it from home. I would like to thank Rosemarie LaBossiere for the wonderful awareness assembly for National Security that she put on. The speakers brought us much information and a lot to think about.
Check out the website ALAforveterans.org for resources and Academy courses and webinars that you and your unit can watch and learn so much more about our organization. continue donating to your various charities, but don’t forget the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation that helps give grants to units to fulfill our mission. Please know that I am here if anyone has any questions or concerns, call or email me at any time.

I hope that everyone was able to meet our National President Lisa Williamson while she was visiting
us. We had a fun time showing her Connecticut and she seemed to enjoy where we took her. At her
dinner, she gave a great speech on the Be the One campaign promoted by the entire American
Legion Family this year.
Please check out the website. There are many resources for the unit to use and webinars on the
programs that you can watch.
The next NEC meeting will be held in late February, and it will be a zoom meeting so I will keep you
informed. February is salute to veteran’s month, and I hope many members are visiting VA hospitals
and convalescent hospitals and spreading cheer.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and we are ready to start running into
the new year full steam ahead! Two events are coming up that should be
attended by all. The National President, Lisa Williamson, from Alaska, will be
visiting our state on January 11-14. Many exciting things are planned so please
try to attend one or two of them, if possible, to meet her and welcome her to
Connecticut. Also, the Mid-Winter Conference is on the 26th and 27th of January at
the Marriott hotel in Trumbull. We are all excited to be back working with The
American Legion again. Let’s show our support to this organization and bring
many members to attend. It is a great learning experience, as well as a wonderful
way to meet new friends and get together with old friends. Hope to see many of
you there.
Not much to report on the National scene. We had a NEC meeting last month, and
most of it was going over new additions to the Redbook and ratifying them and
going over the National quarterly budget.
Thank you for helping our military families throughout the season. I know it made
an enormous difference in their lives. Continue donating to worthy causes,
especially the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation. May you have a Happy New
Year and I hope to see you soon.

There is still time to register for the Providence, Rhode Island National Mission Training on November 4. Just go to ALAforveterans.org or contact me and I will send you the link. It’s a wonderful experience, especially for new members who want to learn more about the auxiliary and our programs. It is also a nice way to just get away for a little while and meet some new people and make new friends.
The holidays are coming up, and it’s time to start thinking about those less fortunate than ourselves and especially our military families. Contribute to local food banks and local charities as well as donating to the American Legion Auxiliary Foundation and using amazon.com/smile for all your shopping needs.
Hopefully all the units have filed their 990s and have raised their dues to compensate for the increase from department and national. Remember, if you’re having trouble or need assistance our department and our officers are there for you. Give any one of us a call and we will be happy to help you out.
