Hello Members,
April is Children & Youth Month and April 15th is Purple Up Day to support Military Kids. There are many ways to support children in your community such as: hold an Easter Egg Hunt, sponsor a diaper/clothing drives, collect children’s books for your local library, volunteer to read to children at the library/schools. Talk to your post to see if they are doing the School Award Medal Program and see if you can help the post in doing this program. If they are not planning to do it perhaps your unit
could plan it.
This year the National Child Welfare Foundation’s goal is to raise $75,000 Please continue to support this program. Send your check to the Department made out to ALA DEPT OF CT and put in memo Child Welfare Foundation.
The 31st Annual American Legion Family Walkathon will be held April. Please check with your TAL District Walkathon chairman to see where your walk is being held and when.100% of the proceeds go to CT Children's Hospital in Hartford. Take a walk and support children with your fellow ALA and TAL members. Encourage your Juniors and SAL members to walk. Junior and young SAL members may be eligible for a Good Deed Award - by participating they are helping hospitalized children. See you
at the Walk.

Members,
We are looking for more children to be eligible for Good Deed Awards and Youth Hero Awards in
your communities. They can be up to the age of 18 years old and still in high school. You must do the
award online. It is a fillable form. Complete the form and submit it. One way to discover what children
are doing in your community is to read the local newspaper, watch television or follow social media.
Example- kids helping by shoveling for the elderly, making valentines for veterans etc.
The Kids Walks to benefit the CT Children’s Hospital in Hartford will take place in April. Dates specific
to your district will be available soon as will envelopes to collect donations. You can also inquire with
your TAL District C&Y Chairman as to where and when your district’s walk will take place. If you
collect donations of $25.00 or more, you will receive a Kids Walk shirt.
April is Children and Youth Month, “Purple Up Day” for Military Kids is April 15th .
On February 28th - National Pancake Day, IHOP restaurants will donate $5.00 for Children's Miracle
Network and you get a free stack of pancakes -tough job! Let's help our kids in the children's hospital.
